Spain’s Public Holidays (Festivos) in 2027

Spain loves a public holiday, or festivo, and knowing when they fall can save you a wasted journey to a government office, a trip to a closed bank or a surprise when you head away for the weekend.

Here’s our guide to Spain’s public holidays in 2027, including the dates to remember in Andalucía, the two local holidays here in Alhaurín de la Torre and a few good opportunities for a puente.

What exactly is a festivo?

A festivo is a public holiday marking a national, regional, religious or cultural occasion. The usual Spanish calendar includes 12 holidays set through the national and regional calendars, plus up to two local holidays chosen by each municipality. That’s why a holiday in Málaga might be an ordinary working day in Alicante or Murcia.

Towns and cities also hold annual ferias, with music, dancing, food and fairground rides. The festivities can run for several days, so check the municipal calendar to see which date is an official public holiday.

Spain’s main public holidays in 2027

These are the main dates to have in your diary. Where observance varies, check the calendar for your autonomous community. See the BOE’s official 2027 public holiday calendar.

Date Holiday
Friday 1 January New Year’s Day
Wednesday 6 January Epiphany / Three Kings’ Day
Thursday 25 March Maundy Thursday
Friday 26 March Good Friday
Saturday 1 May Labour Day
Sunday 15 August Assumption of the Virgin
Tuesday 12 October Spain’s National Day
Monday 1 November All Saints’ Day
Monday 6 December Constitution Day
Wednesday 8 December Immaculate Conception
Saturday 25 December Christmas Day

Three Kings’ Day is known in Spain as Día de Reyes. Maundy Thursday is a public holiday in many regions, including Andalucía. The Assumption falls on a Sunday and is observed on Monday 16 August in Andalucía and some other regions.

Bridging the gap with a puente

A puente literally means a bridge. When a public holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, people often take the Monday or Friday off to make a four-day weekend. If you’re planning around school holidays or booking time off work, check those extra days separately.

New Year’s Day falls on a Friday in 2027, while All Saints’ Day falls on Monday 1 November. Both make three-day weekends for people who work Monday to Friday. Spain’s National Day falls on Tuesday 12 October, so taking Monday 11 October off gives you four days in a row.

December has room for an even longer break. In Andalucía, Constitution Day is on Monday 6 December and Immaculate Conception is on Wednesday 8 December. Taking Tuesday 7 December off gives you five consecutive days, from Saturday 4 to Wednesday 8 December.

Easter in Spain in 2027

Good Friday falls on 26 March. Andalucía and many other regions also observe Maundy Thursday on 25 March, giving people who work Monday to Friday a four-day Easter break. Easter Monday falls on 29 March and is a public holiday in some regions, so it’s worth checking the calendar for your destination if you’re travelling over Semana Santa.

Regional holidays in Andalucía, Alicante and Murcia

Here in Andalucía, two Sunday holidays move to Monday in 2027. Día de Andalucía is observed on Monday 1 March, as 28 February falls on a Sunday. The Assumption of the Virgin is observed on Monday 16 August, giving many people a three-day summer weekend. See Andalucía’s official 2027 public holiday calendar.

Murcia celebrates Día de la Región de Murcia on Wednesday 9 June. In the Valencian Community, which includes Alicante and Benidorm, Día de la Comunitat Valenciana falls on Saturday 9 October. Check the regional dates in the BOE.

Local public holidays in Alhaurín de la Torre

Upsticks HQ is in Alhaurín de la Torre. Our two official local public holidays in 2027 are Wednesday 20 January for San Sebastián and Thursday 24 June for San Juan Bautista. See the official list of Andalucía’s municipal holidays for 2027.

How to check public holidays where you live

Use the BOE’s 2027 public holiday calendar for national and regional dates. For local holidays, check your town hall’s website or search for calendario laboral 2027 followed by the name of the municipality.

Top tip from the Upsticks family

Before booking an important appointment, check the public holiday calendar for the town where it’s taking place. A day that looks perfectly ordinary at home might be a festivo just down the road. And while a public holiday is usually a good excuse to enjoy Spanish life, it’s rather less enjoyable when you’ve driven an hour to find the office closed!
