Make the most of your visit to Elda and explore the city a bit – here are a couple of top tips from us:

Shoe Museum

The Museo del Calzado José María Amat Amer (Shoe Museum) celebrates Elda’s long tradition as one of Spain’s most important footwear-manufacturing centres. Opened in 1999, the museum displays a large collection of shoes, machinery, tools, and historical documents plus celebrity footwear, and exhibits explaining the techniques used by shoemakers over the centuries. Unexpectedly fascinating!

Castillo de Elda

If you plan ahead, you might be able to visit the impressive Castillo de Elda, a historic fortress dating back to the 12th-13th centuries,  situated on a hill overlooking the Vinalopó River.  The castle was initially built as an Islamic fortress, then in the 16th century, the Coloma family, the Counts of Elda, transformed it into an elegant Renaissance-style palace.  By the 19th century, the now-abandoned building was not much more than a ruin.

Following significant restoration work in recent years, today the castle stands as one of Elda’s most important historical landmarks. Visitors can explore the site through guided tours, which must normally be booked in advance through the tourist office:
