Numero uno – Know the area – make sure you visit the area you intend to live at different times of the year. 
Numero dos – Get someone good/you trust to do the paperwork.
Numero tres –  Find out the community fees (if applicable) and what you will be paying. 
Numero cuatro –  Find out how much house tax (IBI) you will be paying Check out this article about IBI in Spain
Numero cinco –  Electric, does the property have a good supply, what are the average bills?
Numero seis – Water, does the property have a good supply (where from?), and what are the average bills?
Numero siete – Gas, does the property use gas for hot water etc, is there a contract in place to buy the bottles or a local supplier nearby?
Numero ocho –  Post, can you get post, or will you need to collect from a PO Box service? Check out this article about the post office in Spain
