Calling for Help – Emergency Services and other Useful Phone Numbers

Although we all hope it will never happen, in an emergency it helps to be prepared, so here are the main contact numbers for emergency situations in Spain.

Emergency Services – call 112 from anywhere in Europe
112 is the emergency number in Spain (equivalent to calling 999 in the UK) and in fact, you can use this number in any country in Europe.

When calling 112 in Spain obviously it’s handy if you have someone who speaks Spanish with you, although English speakers may be available.

Foreign Tourists Helpline (SATE)
Tourist Emergency Helpline – 902 102 112 (in English, French, German and Italian)

The Servicio de Atención al Turista Extranjero (SATE) handles foreigner’s security matters. You can report a crime, lost documents, damage, assault, robbery, break-in or an accident to this service. After calling, you will typically have a visit within 48 hours from your local police station to ratify your complaint.
