This October, Alicante takes centre stage as it hosts the Walking Football World Nations Cup 2025 — an inspiring international event that celebrates sport, community, and wellbeing.
Running from 21st to 31st October, the tournament brings together men’s and women’s walking football teams from across the globe, competing in multiple age categories — including Mens 50s, 60s and 70s, and Womens 40s, 50s and 60s. In total, more than 90 matches will be played over two weeks, marking the largest gathering of walking football players ever held.
Walking football is a fast-growing sport designed to keep people active regardless of age or ability. It focuses on teamwork, inclusion, and fun — offering a way for players to continue enjoying the game they love while staying healthy and socially connected.
As featured in both MSN’s “The beautiful stroll: England’s seniors take walking football to world stage” and The Guardian’s “The beautiful stroll: England’s seniors take walking football to world stage”, the sport is rapidly gaining recognition, with Spain & England’s senior teams helping to drive walking football onto the world stage.
At the heart of the event is Mark Kavanagh, director of Spain Walking International Football Teams SL, whose vision and dedication have turned a community pastime into a truly global competition.
